About Jonathan
Jonathan Jacky is a Washington born, Ohio raised, Midwest rooted musician and producer currently residing in the Sacred Black Hills of South Dakota. Jonathan regularly performs trumpet and flugelhorn with several bands in the region stretching across multiple different genres: in the blues/rock/jazz style with Johnny Hastings & Stillhouse Down (Rapid City), Jimmy Ray & The Stingers (Custer), and Wild Blue (Hot Springs), in the neo-soul/pop style with Lucas Olson Trio, and Neon City (Spearfish) in South Dakota, with the eclectic jam band Ghosts of Endor from Whitefish, Montana, and with singer-songwriters Clayton Ryan (Minneapolis, MN), and Laura Mills (Rapid City, SD).
Jonathan’s studio work as a multi-instrumentalist can be heard under the pseudonym QUAKEQUATION and is a staple of the psychedelic genre of the upper midwest. He can be seen regularly performing a solo live looping version of his music across the country. The debut QUAKEQUATION album is currently being recorded. Other recording collaborations with Rapid City singer-songwriters Laura Mills and Bert Malcom are also actively in the works.
Jonathan's horns can be heard on Yellow Springs, Ohio band Speaking Suns’ sophomore album Range (2017), and also on tracks from bands Bummers (Columbus, OH), and The Zygotes (Dayton, OH). Recording collaborations with solo artists include Chad Diamond Dann (Vancouver, WA) and Jack Blair (Cincinnati, OH). Check out all these recordings and more in the discography.
Jonathan earned a Bachelor’s of Music (BM) in Music Performance from Wright State University (Dayton, OH) in 2017, and a Master’s of Music (MM) in Music Performance from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) in 2019.
